Mayor’s statement – North Lake Park

PUBLIC STATEMENT regarding North Lake Park:

Myself, Councillor Budd, Councillor Glanville and the CAO were part of a TEAMS meeting with Deputy Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, Helene Bouchard and members of her team yesterday morning (April 21/26).

Deputy Minister Bouchard stated that the province would not be operating the park this summer but would entertain discussing an agreement that would allow the municipality to open and operate the beach area only.  She also stated the province would not offer any financial support.

Myself and the two councillors on the call were given an opportunity to express our concerns and the effects that this closure has on our entire community.  We explained the poor timing with an upcoming election and the limitations to decision making that comes along with that.  The 2026 budget was finalized in December of 2025 which means no money was allocated for this expense.

We voiced our concerns regarding the possibility of vandalism, trespassing, partying and excessive noise.  These were all problems that arose the last time the park was closed and left vacant.

The Deputy Minister agreed to set up a meeting with the newly elected council after they have been sworn in and take office.  The new council will be given the opportunity to discuss an agreement to operate the beach.  Until that time, I will continue to advocate on behalf of Lakeland Ridges.

Respectfully, Mayor Leonard Foster
